Irish accordion player David Munnelly and band visited our studios in August 2005 for a rousing concert of dance tunes and vocals, with guest vocalist Jodee James. Tune in this week for the first half of the concert by this rising star in the company of Irish bands.
   
06-05 2/2/06 Fifteenth Anniversary Celebration
The first broadcast of Celtic Connections was February 3, 1991, on WSIU radio in southern Illinois. The program became syndicated in 1996, and it now reaches 110 stations in 23 states. This week we celebrate the program's 15th anniversary by highlighting the "Album of the Year" from each of the years we have been broadcasting.

Sean O'Riada (1931-1971) was one of Ireland's most influential composers in the 20th century. He organized a concert of traditional musicians in Dublin which led to the formation of The Chieftains. He composed for film and television, and he recorded performances on harpsichord. This week we profile the man and his works, both orchestral and traditional.

Moya Cannon is a Galway-based poet with two books of poems and a third on the way, a number of which include references to the music and to her musician friends. In a recent visit to our studio, she graciously offered a reading of some of her poems, and talked with host Bryan Kelso Crow about the inspiration she gets from the Irish musicians, who will also be featured in the program.

The tenth annual Southern Illinois Irish Festival is coming up April 28-29, 2006, and this week's program offers a preview of the festival's musical guests, including the headliner band from Ireland, Teada.
