One of Ireland's outstanding uilleann pipers, Mick O'Brien from Dublin, recently dropped by the studios of Celtic Connections, giving us the opportunity to hear about the components of the pipes and to feature some of his recordings, including the excellent new fiddle/pipes/whistles CD "Kitty Lie Over" which he recorded with Caoimhin O Raghallaigh.

This week's program celebrates the long tradition of Irish music recordings by New York native and immigrant musicians, with a focus on current performers like Brian Conway, Joanie Madden, and Jerry O'Sullivan.

Music inspired by Irish and Scottish poetry, or poems set to music, or readings by noted poets with musical backgrounds, all fall under this week's program theme exploring the links between music and poetry. We'll hear from Seamus Heaney among others.

Put on your dancing shoes and clear the floor as we launch into the third in an occasional series of programs featuring entirely one type of dance tune, in this case the ever-popular reel.
