The travelers of Ireland, Scotland and England have been the subject of many a song in the traditional musics of those lands, and the songs often reflect a fascination with gypsy culture at the same time that they portray them as disreputable. The outstanding Irish band Danu was recorded in concert exclusively for Celtic Connections at the 2002 Southern Illinois Irish Festival. The tunes are fast and furious, and the singing of Ciaran O Gealbhain is perfectly lovely. We'll hear the first half of the concert this week.
  
03-12 03/20/03 Danu in Concert, Part Two
Whether you caught last week's first half of a concert by Irish band Danu or not, tune in for the rousing second half of the concert this week, with host Bryan Kelso Crow and fellow band members joining Danu onstage for a grand finale.

This year's Southern Illinois Irish Festival (April 25-27 2003 in Carbondale, IL) features American Irish singer Cathie Ryan, the trio Siucra, and US Scottish National Fiddle Champion Jeremy Kittel, all of whom can be heard in this week's preview of this and other upcoming festivals.
