Kate Rusby is one of the leading traditional singers in Britain today, and her husband John McCusker is one of Scotland's leading fiddle players and a master of several other instruments. They both have new CDs out, including Kate's CD "10" which looks back through her first 10 years of recording. A sampling of their numerous recordings gives us a rich mix of vocal and instrumental treats.

03-17 4/24/03 Planxty
One of the leading Irish traditional bands of the 1970s and early 1980s, Planxty included singers Christy Moore and Andy Irvine, piper Liam O'Flynn, and multi-instrumentalist Donal Lunny, with later additions of Johnny Moynihan and Matt Molloy. This week's program offers highlights from their six classic albums of Irish music.

Irish Studies scholar Charles Fanning joins us in the studio this week to report on his research documenting the popularity of Irish music in Chicago, with recordings going back to the 1930s, from the home sessions of Eleanor Neary to the studio creations of Liz Carroll.
