This first program of the new year will review some of the best Celtic music CDs of 2000, culminating in Bryan's choice of "Celtic Connections Album of the Year."

01-02 1/11/01 Fiddler Kevin Burke
Kevin Burke has recorded so many albums now, both solo and duet, and as a member of The Bothy Band, Patrick Street, Open House, and the Celtic Fiddle Festival, that we can't even fit one selection per album into the hour, but we'll still be able to sample some great tunes from the breadth of his career as one of the best loved Irish fiddle players.

01-03 1/18/01 Songs of Robert Burns
Born January 25, 1759, Robert Burns continues to occupy the most central role in Scotland's long tradition of song-writing. An impressive roster of singers will help us celebrate his birthday in this week's program.

01-04 1/25/01 New Releases
Those 2001 CDs are starting to arrive in our record library, and this week we'll sample from the newest arrivals as well as continue to choose some great selections from recent releases.

01-05 2/1/01 10th Anniversary Show
Celtic Connections was first broadcast as a local program in Carbondale, Illinois on February 3, 1991. This week we celebrate the program's tenth anniversary with a proper party in appreciation of our many listeners, supporters, and guests over the years!

01-06 2/8/01 Northern Irish Traditions
The north of Ireland has a rich and distinctive set of musical traditions, from the mountains of Donegal to the streets of Belfast. This week's program focuses the spotlight on music of this region, both vocal and instrumental.

01-07 2/15/01 Jigsongs
You won't find the word "jigsongs" in any music reference sources, but this week's program will introduce the word into the lexicon by featuring vocals that are all in 6/8 time, often with jig melodies woven into the performance of the song. It should make for a lively and toe-tapping hour!

Old and new recordings intermingle in this week's grab-bag of Celtic music.

01-09 3/1/01 New Releases

01-12 3/22/01 Michael Burke's Pennywhistles
Celtic Connections can boast of a hometown instrument maker whose whistles are turning up on lots of CDs lately by some of the finest Irish, Scottish, and North American Celtic musicians.
